Nancy Sinatra said on Twitter Wednesday that the late Dean Martin was not an excessive drinker, but rather that it was an 'act.'
Nancy, 82, responded to a user on Twitter who said that Martin looked 'drunk as f***' during a 1965 group performance that included his Rat Pack running mates Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., as well as Johnny Carson and Quincy Jones.
Nancy responded, 'That is a lie. Dean was very disciplined, golfed every morning. The drinking was part of the professional persona, an act.'

The These Boots Are Made for Walkin' singer addressed the issue with another user in defense of Martin, who died on Christmas day of 1995.
The user said, 'Nancy! You only had to look at Deans last photos to see he had lived the life of an alcoholic! It’s not a crime it was a condition that he chose to live with.
'He was a great celebrity and entertainer and will be loved forever by those who knew him personally and as an audience!
Nancy responded no, and said that Dean 'was just a shell' of himself following the 1987 death of his son Dean Jr. at 35 in a plane crash during military training.

Nancy thanked a user who said that the 2021 documentary Dean Martin: King of Cool enlightened them on the show biz aspect to his drinking persona.
'I always thought Dean Martin was a boozer, too,' the user said. 'It was then that I realized that it was all an act. He was really a quiet, sober, intensely private person.'
Nancy retweeted a number of users who chimed in with supportive comments.
One said, 'Dean and the Rat Pack were Pro’s. They couldn’t perform if truly drunk,' while another said, 'there’s no way [Martin] could have done everything he did, as well as he did, if he was drunk all the time.'
